History:

The enormous global growth of CSLI has made it necessary to consider creating more efficient structures. Originally, the Corps Saint Lazare International was established as an AUSTRIAN charitable association with “foreign involvement”. However, many structures in Austria have become diluted and fragmented by the unexpected level of international participation.

Communication has become increasingly difficult, as some officials must be in touch with 200 to 300 members DIRECTLY in order to maintain the structure, while other officials are totally “under-employed”.

In order for the CSLI to have a modern structure that will meet international standards, the CORPS SAINT LAZARUS UNION INTERNATIONAL, (LAZARUS UNION for short), has been founded. The CSLI Knighthood of Honour is now located in the Lazarus Union and so has a global significance beyond Austria.

The Lazarus Union will have a very lean organisation and membership structure with a Governing Board, auditors and some key members. It will be similar to the European Union Military Historical Groups, EUWHG, which simply accept associated groups as members.

In the Lazarus Union, all Members of Affiliated Associations are also automatically Members in the Lazarus Union. Each Association has ONE vote, so even small organisations can influence the future destiny of the Lazarus Union.

The CSLI abbreviation and logo, and all regalia and insignia, are unchanged and we are also retaining our well known website www.csli.at. These will be adapted gradually to the new situation.

All Members, Officers and Commanders are encouraged to make contributions and give their input to this powerful new movement and organisation. The communication channels are always posted on our CSLI website.

Since we wanted to lose as little time as possible in establishing and giving power to the Lazarus Union, we defined the new structure applicable from 1 October 2010 and published it.

95% of all Commanders have been allotted the same posts and functions as before, with only about 5% having extra functions “imposed”. If anyone wants to comment on this, or disagrees with anything, the founder of the Lazarus Union asks that comments be made speedily so that the needs of our many, many volunteers can be met quickly. The changes also affect the relevant decrees, but these can take a little longer to process for work reasons. So, naturally, the old decrees continue to apply in our new Lazarus Union!

Please understand that we only list the Commanders and the most important functionaries on our website because otherwise the whole site would be filled with names. For most Staff Officers, Officers, NCOs and Team Members the actions noted above will make very little change to their “day-to-day work”.
